Merging with Ecologies

Ritual gestures and photographs that trace the body's relationship to cultivated and untamed landscapes.

This body of work explores the poetic architecture of the hand as a vessel, a threshold, and a witness. The images are not merely about touch, but about transference—what the hand receives, what it offers, what it builds through repeated gesture.

From seeds and petals to splinters and scars, these photographs document what moves through a life in contact with the natural world. In an age of disposability and detachment, these images ask: what do we build through our hands? What becomes sacred by being held?

Plant Portraits

There is something that happens when you spend enough time with plants — not studying them, not extracting from them, but sitting with them the way you sit with someone you are learning to understand.
The categories begin to blur.

Not sentimentally.
Not magically.
But structurally.

Across vitalist herbalism, Ayurveda, and older constitutional medicine, there is a shared premise:

Humans have constitutions.
Plants have constitutions.
Humans have patterns of imbalance.
Plants have energetics and affinities.

A warming plant meets a cold body.
A drying plant meets damp stagnation.
A nervine softens tension.

At some point, the analogy stops being poetic. It becomes clinical.

I've been thinking about what I'm calling Analogical Ecology — the idea that humans and plants are not categorically separate beings, but variations of the same living intelligence expressing through different forms.

The ecological crisis is, among other things, a failure of this kind of thinking. When forests become timber and bodies become malfunctioning machines, we stop reading pattern. We silence signal instead of listening to it.

Light entering leaves becomes sugar, yes — but also structure, defense, communication, the slow architecture of wood, the volatiles that warn neighboring plants of danger, the resins that seal wounds, the pigments that attract or repel.

Light entering the human body optimizes mitochondria, converts cholesterol into vitamin D, repairs cellular tissue through frequencies our skin has been reading for a million years.

Different forms. The same metabolic conversation with the sun.
